Counsels, coordinates, consults, and administers student, parent, and faculty orientation regarding careers, courses, programs of study, as well as personal and social issues.

Advises, interviews, assesses, shares information, and consults with a focus on employment, job readiness, the labor market, and employers.

Educational Counsellors – NOC 41320

Advise current and prospective students on educational issues, career planning and personal development, and coordinate the provision of counselling services to students, parents, teachers, faculty and staff. They are employed by school boards and post-secondary educational institutions. Illustrative examples of jobs in this NOC category include; academic counsellor, career counsellor – education, Indigenous advisor – college, school counsellor, and student services counsellor, among others.

Employment Development Practitioners and Career Counsellors – NOC 41321

Provide assistance and information to job seeker clients on all aspects of employment search and career planning. They also provide advice and information to employer clients regarding employment issues and human resources. They are employed by public or private employment agencies, rehabilitation centres, hospitals, human resource departments of establishments, consulting firms, correctional facilities and by federal and provincial governments. Supervisors of career development practitioners and career counsellors (except education) are included in this unit group.
